Description

A citrine sun shines on a blue sapphire whale.

Our Orca whale earrings portray wild orcas swimming freely in the ocean under a setting sun.

Our Orca whale earrings portray wild orcas swimming freely in the ocean under a setting sun. We hope to help in the campaign against the practice of keeping them in captivity as well as conserving and protecting all sea life by donating 10% of sales to WDC, the Whale and Dolphin Conservation, with each purchase of these earrings.

The Orca’s (Orcinus orca), also referred to as the killer whale, intelligence and striking appearance have made it a popular exhibit at sea life centres and aquariums, along with dolphins. Orca populations in the US and Canadian Pacific Northwest, Iceland and Japan have been negatively impacted since the 1960s to the 1980s by the live capture industry where they are exploited for ‘entertainment.’ In the wild, orcas can swim up to 100 miles per day – a phenomenal amount, in comparison to the exercise they receive in captivity and they are highly social; some populations are composed of matrilineal family groups (pods) which are the most stable of any animal species. Captive in concrete tanks, they are not provided with adequate social interactions, little to no stimulation where they suffer from dorsal fin collapse and lack proper exercise.

GEMSTONES: Sri Lankan citrine and blue sapphire

Boodi jewellery is committed to ethically sourcing all of its materials. To release a talismanic energy, it is important that each amulet is positively charged and comes from a place of peace and positive intention. The metals are recycled so that no unnecessary mining has taken place which can be harmful to the environment. Each gemstone is sourced from mines where working conditions for the miners are as safe and environmentally friendly as possible, with no child labour. We work closely with our suppliers to maintain an ethical and sustainable brand and our suppliers work closely with the gemstone miners.

The citrines and blue sapphires in the Orca earrings are traceable to mines in Sri Lanka.

Each piece of Boodi jewellery is beautifully presented in branded black and gold recycled gift boxes. Enclosed is a small note with the meaning and intention of each piece.
